Social Media Noise

Recently I see Chris Dixon rolling out a new mantra “The bowling pin strategy” at http://bit.ly/cKttsg.

Chris is a Very Followed Person so his meme quickly hit the hype. When reading his idea I’ve realised it is the same as presented in 37Signals’ bestseller “Rework” chapter “Scratch your own itch first”.

This is how my Twitter and Newsledge is fading into noise … I can hardly find something original sticking to my interests.

Using less Twitter would give me more knowledge. I’m already on focus — current hits like Net Neutrality, the coming Venture Capital bubble are subjects I’ve been dealing with last summer.

Twitter is for making a more in-depth knowledge about a subject. For me it made clear how the internet works, how and why power and capital is rolling out trends like geolocation and quantified self.

Before Twitter I had the big idea, I knew what is going to happen. Now I know why is going to happen.

Before Twitter I used for newsledge a tool based on social filtering which was not really a social media tool. It was more opinionated by using less information sources.

Both ways of learning took around the same amount of time. If I could combine these two methods I could half my learning curve:

Name my subject of interests > Follow the single best source for each > Try to connect all subjects into a big picture > Get recommendations for additional semi-subjects with original sources to fill the gap.

This is the real Newsledge. Would you join me?
